total started: 100
total actually read: 92
# of adult books (including graphic novels): 28
# of ya books (including graphic novels): 28
# of children’s (including picture books): 35
month most books finished: november/december (12)
month least books finished: july (4)

january
total: 7
highlights: carried my copy of a.s. byatt's the children's book to the ski lodge in lake placid, fully aware of the fact i'd rather read with a cup of hot chocolate than hit the slopes. brought my mistress's sparrow is dead to boston, but spent most of that trip at the bar rather than in between the pages.

february
total: 7
highlights: read richard price's lush life and remarked how much the dialogue was like that in the wire, only to realize he was a writer for the series. spent a lot of time trying to get through the 600 page collection of flannery o'conner's letters. the pioneer woman deserves designation for her's being the first cookbook i ever read cover to cover.

march
total: 7
highlights: the most amazing month of reading, with four of my top ten having been read at this time. i read henrietta lacks while waiting to have a colonoscopy and book-talked it to all the techs. i sped through let the world spin in three days. fell in love with patti smith, recommended the book to my mom and watched her swoon as well.

april
total: 5
highlights: allowed myself to quit, forever, believing that i really needed to read allyson noel's the immortals series. received my nook as an early graduation gift and treated myself to purchasing the conclusion to kelly armstrong's darkest powers trilogy while in the airport en route to CBF. fell head over heels for jasper fforde's shades of grey, almost enough to give his thursday next series a second try.

may
total: 5
highlights: finally got around to reading boston noir, which had been a christmas present intended for my january ALA midwinter trip. knocked the little prince off my "oh my god you've never read that?!" list and was unimpressed. discovered oliver jeffers.

june
total: 10
highlights: started my lord of the rings project at the request of my boyfriend. he in turn had to complete the hunger games triology. sped through all of my BEA YA gems - zombies vs. unicorns, you, matched, delirium. read the search for wondla while on a train to philly to see neutral uke hotel, a ukulele cover band, and cried through before i fall on a bolt bus stuck in DC traffic.

july
total: 4
highlights: continued lord of the rings project. became obsessed with beautiful creatures, but did not like beautiful darkness as much. reading justin cronin's the passage consumed much of my life (and dreams, conversation topics, ability to concentrate) for the second half of the month.

august
total: 10
highlights: this felt like my most prolific month of reading. i remembered liking super sad true love story more than my review, but maybe i just like things where i can have many opinions. ship breaker was the brightest gem of the books i'd picked up at ALA annual, although flash burnout and the girl who fell from the sky were not that far behind. insisted that my father take me to the nearest barnes & noble very early on the day mockingjay came out to pick up a copy despite the fact that we were on vacation and i had an e-reader because it was JUST NOT THE SAME. he obliged and even kept my family at bay until i reached the very last page.

september
total: 5
highlights: finished the lord of the rings project. was disappointed by kraken. read new on the job: a school media specialist's guide to success hoping it would prepare me more for my new job than three years of grad school did. read and despised the maze runner.

october
total: 8
highlights: picked up little bee while in tears after my last day as a public librarian and read it on my roadtrip instead of the books on teaching i'd picked up on half.com. started my cybils reading - cosmic, the thirteenth princess, the line, the call and ninth ward being the best of that bunch.

november
total: 12
highlights: all cybils reads, except for postcards from a dead girl (selected from my nook's e-wish list after a moment where i snapped and realized if i didn't read a book meant for adults within the next ten minutes my brain was going to implode). had my first philip reeve experience with fever crumb, which is out of this world amazing, and was surprised by how much i liked r.a. spratt's the adventures of nanny piggins.

decmber
total: 12
highlights: tried to keep afloat with my cybils reading, but there was much abandonment after the requisite number of pages. adored the secret life of princesses. tried my hardest with the boneshaker, which didn't do it for me. the year ended on a high note, with the transition from cornelia funke's reckless to royce buckingham's the dead boys and onward to patrick ness's chaos walking triology. am currently reading jennifer donnelly's revolution today, with ambitious aspirations to finish today.
